Elleno (1969)
Elleni is a series of anthropomorphic statues made of recycled materials. They were made after the artist reflected on the accusation made by Giulio Carlo Argan against the contemporary Anglo-American sculpture. According to the critic, the contemporary sculpture was responsible for representing the end of classical humanism in favour of the aesthetic of the robot or scrap material, a symbol of technological dehumanisation. The Elleno is wreckage but at the same time is the release of the Western humanism, its adaptation to the contemporary industrial mechanics.
